Can anyone suggest what math a high school student should reach in order to study pre-med / medicine in college? Will it make much difference whether it's Calculus AB or Calculus BC? Thanks.

The 3 series will be taken by the premedicine student. This is math for life science students. There is less emphasis for calculus.

I would suggest AP Statistics and Calculus AB; take Calculus BC for the love of math.

Thanks BoelterHall ;)

Seriously, it doesn't matter what you take in high school, as long as you get through Pre-Calculus. You're going to have to take calculus at UCLA anyway (almost no med schools accept AP tests as credit for pre-reqs), so unless you think you won't pass calculus at UCLA without having taken it before, I wouldn't bother with it in high school - I didn't for just this reason.

try to pass out of as much as you can (take the BC test). Math at UCLA is difficult, even if you've been exposed to calc in high school.

It would be advantageous to have some calculus exposure before college. The learning curve isn't too crazy, but it may be a differerence between an A and B. Plus, taking AP Calculus would give AP points towards GPA.
