Hey guys, I am a math major at UIUC. I first decided to become a math major because i wanted to teach. But after taking a couple of higher level math courses (Lin Algebra, non-euclidean geometry, Theory in probability etc etc etc), I began to develop passion and love for math. SO I guess what I am trying to say here is that I wish to continue on to graduate school in a math program(probably just a master's program for now). But the problem is, my GPA isn't as solid compared to the popular consensus on this forum (3.5 Cumulative, and 3.3 in math).

What are the chances of me getting into mid tier schools? Given my Math GPA, should I give up on my wishful thinking and dreams? Help me out guys :(

try to get some research under your belt. apply to an reu program. best of luck! i think u can get into cuny with those stats. cuny is pretty solid.

well yes, REU is generally quite competitive to get in. I think that after taking the real analysis class, you will have a better judgment for yourself whether or not you really want to pursue grad study in math, mainly because it will expose you to the sort of rigor in proof that’s expected of you and the level of mathematical abstraction in graduate level mathematics.
