Math help

A certain physical fitness test lasts a total of 3 hours. EAch part of the test requires the same amount of time and 12 minute breaks are included between consecutive parts. If there a total of 3 breaks during the 3 hours, what is the required time, in minutes for each part of the test

33
36---> answer but why? I did 180 -36=144 then i could divide it with either 36 or 48 but i chose 48 didnt know how to solve it
38
45
48

Can someone help me with the remainder questions , i need to learn the technique of solving those types of questions like this one..

When a certain odd number is divided by 5, the remiander is 1. Which digit must be in the units place of this odd number?

I just did trial and error and got the question right but these types of questions come a lot in the SAT so I need to learn how to solve it.

Thank you

for the first problem, you took the right approach when you did 180-36=144.

now you have 144 minutes for x amount of parts. they told you there were 3 breaks. the breaks occur between EACH CONSECUTIVE PART. so:

part
break
part
break
part
break
part

clearly, there are 4 parts. 144/4=36.

for the second one, there aren’t any equations or universal solutions to these that i know of. you know that the only time you’ll get a remainder of 1 when dividing by 5 is when the units place is 6 or 1… so the answer is obviously 1… ive always done it through simple logic and sometimes trial and error, i dont know if anyone here has a specific formula.

I definitely need help with these as well
