Which one should I take? I'm a decent math student (got a 690 on the new SAT math section) and did well in the precalculus course I took last year. Should I go for the Math II based on the course I took last year or should I go for Math I? By the way, I stink at geometry...totally forgot it all...

2c has a far better curve than 1c, i would recommend 2c to anyone who wants to take a math sat 2. as long as you've taken geometry, alg 2, precalc, and trig, you should be fine. on the 1c test you get like 2 wrong and its like a 730

fwiw: the UC's will no longer accept math 1

What does fwiw stand for? I'm always confused about these acronyms.

fwiw = for what it's worth

The 2c has a much nicer curve and if you did well in precalc, then with some practice, you can do really well in the 2c

S did really well in precalc, didn't prepare for either, and got 740 in IC (95 percentile) and 680 in IIC (75 percentile or something like that). His roommate, who got 780 on the SAT math, got a 710 in IIC. It isn't as easy to get a good score as many on this board would have you believe.

I'm going to have to dispute the post above mine. The reason he probably didn't do well is that he didn't prepare and as a result, was not as careful in avoiding careless mistakes compared to someone who practiced. If you have a solid knowledge of your precalculus (including limits), then if you get some basic derivative knowledge, take a few practice tests, and along with knowing how to use your graphing calculator well you should be able to get a good score on the SAT II Math Level 2 (even if you didn't do that well on SAT I math). The curve for Level 2 is extremely generous and if you know when you should skip a question as well as not make careless mistakes, you'll do well.

Someone I know: 740 or so SAT I/780 SAT II IIC
