Hi I'm a high school junior but I'm only in algebra and trig this year for math. Would it still be respectable to get a high score on the Math Ic because thats the only math i'd be ready for? Or would it be better to just do other subjects that I'm equal in strength in?

I don’t know any colleges where scoring well on Math Lvl 1 would compare to Math Lvl 2. Most of the colleges that require the subject tests are more elite schools (minus some of the UC schools.) If anything, I’d tell you to study for Math Lvl 2 and see how you score because Lvl 1 is usually frowned upon in comparison to Lvl 2. You might also want to take some of the other tests if you’re prepared.

What schools are you looking into?

Yes, I would take it because it is better than nothing, and if a school require either level of math, the your set.

From MIT’s website:

For native English speakers: We require the SAT Reasoning Test with the writing component or the ACT with the writing test. We do not prefer one over the other. In addition, we require two SAT Subject Tests: one in math (level 1 or 2), and one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m). We do not have a preference as to which science you take or which level math you take.

So, if you think you’ll do best on Math I, take Math I. If it’s good enough for MIT, should be good enough for anyone - unless the school specifically asks for Math II.

take both if u can.

I’d wait and take Math II

Do not take both if you can do better on the Math II exam.

thanks for your help

like u of chicago, boston college, thinkin about applyin to stanford mit upenn but as like superreaches lol

thanks for your help

In that case I think waiting and doing Math II would definitely be the better option

I disagree with waiting for Math 2. Depending on the curriuculum at the OP’s HS, Math 2 may requires a full year of precalc, so taking it next fall or December is risky, IMO. Unless the OP is seeking a tech or engineering school (or the UCs), a high Math 1 score will work for most colleges.

My recommendation is to take a Math 1 practice test at home and see if the score result is in the 700+ range.
