Math II: Barrons vs. Real test

Ok, so I'm doing Barrons right now for practice. But the practice tests are really really hard...I can never finish it on time!!

If I'm aiming for a 800 this time (got 750ish last time)..what would be a good score to get on the Barrons test?
I can get around a 800 on the Barrons practice tests if I do it untimed
But doing it timed I can only get around 710-740.
What should I aim for??

(I plan on doing the CB ones a little closer to Jan.24)

For those who got 800s on the Math II test...what were your practice scores in Barrons like???

Thanks alot :)

Well, I got 630 for the first practice test in Barrons. I don't remember the exact score of the 2nd and 3rd score, but they were less than 700. So I was really terrified for the real test on November, but somehow I got 800. I didn't even use graphing calculator;; weird.
I actually thought during my test that the test was really easy.
Hope that helps

Oh good!
Thanks alot!

yeah I'd say (from experience) that the "Barron's curve" for math sat II is around 150 points. You're well in range for an 800.

I scored a 770 on the real exam and my Barron's scores dipped to the high 500 on two of the practice exams. My other Barron's scores usually were around 610-660.

I think part of the problem with Barrons is that the questions are too time consuming. I always take 65 to 70 minutes but get most of them right. Did you guys find that to be the case?

Also, did you think some of the topics just wouldn't be on the test? When I studied for the Math 1 with BArrons there were a lot of esotetric topics that weren't actually coverered on the real SAT II.

Yeah if I got 20 minutes over time I can get an 800 (usually miss 3-4) but with the time limit...I can only get a 700ish..
THey take SO long to do...
I did one from the CB book and it was SOOO much easier. I got done 10-15 minutes before the hour ended and got time to check over alot of my answers..it was so much less stressing

Yeah, I'm sure there'll be some stuff that don't show up. Or there'll be like 1 questions on it haha.

I'm thinking the real test is harder than the ones from the CB book but easier than the ones from Barrons??

Well, all the tests in the CB book are supposed to be previously administered tests... So theoretically, they should be very similar in difficulty (and a similar curve)

I took the Barron's diagnostic test and got a raw score of 42...how am I looking?

Actually, I think that the CB book's Math 2 tests are ALOT easier than the real test...(well at least for the October 2008 administration)
For those of you who used Barron's and got 800s, what do you think about the Barron's book helped you? The actual review material or the tests?

Barron's practice tests (and any other test prep company) are strictly based off of the material they review. That being said, one should not help a lot more than the other. For example, you aren't going to score an 800 on a Barron's practice test unless you know your conics pretty well. As a result of this, or as a cause of, Barron's goes over conics more extensively than any other book.

CB's math guide had only 2 subject tests =S do you have any idea that where can i find more?

tetrisfan--a 42 raw score on Barrons is very good! Did you do it timed?

I can never finish a Barrons set on time!! It's so frustrating. I'm like rushing through the problems and I can never get done..

Yeah, I've been looking all over the place for more CB practice problems but I don't think they have any more..

I did it timed, yes. But it was the diagnostic test...does that make a difference?

From what I've noticed, the Barron's diagnostic test on the same difficulty level as their actual practice tests.

Yeah, a 42 on their diagnostic is very solid if you haven't looked at any of their review material yet. I scored a ~40 on the diagnostic test and then went through the whole review section. Scored a 780 on the first practice test and then scored straight 800's on the rest. All timed of course.

Awesome! Thanks!

i think if u're getting 650s+ on barrons, u're pretty safe for a 780+ for M.
i got like 660 3x on barrons(heck,i didn't even finish all 6 tests haha.) , i got 800 on the real one~

Ok, thanks!!
That makes me feel MUCH better :)
