I want to start preparing for the Math II Subject Test and after glancing over the questions from the Official Practice Test from CB, I find that I dont know how to do a LOT of them (and the ones I do know how to do often take a long time). (btw, yes I have taken precalc) Do you recommend that I read over all of Barron's Math II guide? I feel that the Sparknotes one I have now is not comprehensive enough.

Personally, for the problems in the review book that I didn’t remember/understand, I found my precal textbook to be of much, much more help. Then, I went back to the examples that the review book offered.

Honestly, though, I would argue that the most helpful thing that I gained from the review book were the practice exams and approximated scoring conversions, not the review material.

Barrons is useless, it’s way harder than the real thing and teaches a lot of unnecessary stuff.
I gave up on it and used PR instead, which got me 790 w/ only 1 week of prep.

I mean, practicing with tests harder than the actual or with more conservative curves isn’t always a bad thing. After going through the practice tests a few times, I was only expecting around a 700, but I came away from the test with an 800.

Barron’s is probably not the best review book if you’re unsure about a lot of the material. It covers a LOT more than the actual test, and to a much greater level of difficulty. It’s excellent if you want to be overprepared, but possibly not the best introduction/re-introduction to the Math 2 material.

(P.S. I looked through PR and then used Barron’s to get an 800. If you’re looking for a similar score, I might suggest something similar - PR will do a better job of brushing you up on the basic math, and Barron’s will make it so that test day feels like a review of multiplication tables.)

how do you guys think about kaplan’s math 2 book? I finished the review part in it and did half of the exercises. do you think I should move on to barrons exercises or go on with kaplan?

demet: I found the kaplan prep book helpful. Just make sure you check the explanations after you do those exercises, and make sure you know how to do ALL of their pretest questions. Oh, by the way, kaplan tends to focus a lot on three-dimensional figures as a type of “hard” question, but those were really not covered that frequently in the actual SAT math.

Will reading all of PR really help me learn the material? I am afraid it will brush on all the topics a little while leaving me with little knowledge.

xrCalico23 : thanks a lot for the help I think I am gonna do all the questions and check the explanations in the kaplan book and then see the official ones.
