Hi,
I'm taking my Subjects in 2 weeks and have a dilemma over which Math level to choose; I originally wanted to go for the lower one but then the friendly curve persuaded me to study the topics of Level II. Now I am in a state where I can probably get the same scores on both of them (ie around 760), the problem on Level I being a few careless mistakes and on Level 2 a few surprisingly difficult questions.

Now I'm wondering if it's better to take Level 1 and be in the 90-something percentile, or show that I can do Level 2 with a pretty high score with the risk that when the admission officers see a 75 percentile they consider me way too average.

If you can really get the same score on either test, you are definitely better off taking level 2. Many people take math level 1, whereas the strongest math people will generally be taking level 2, so you can’t compare percentile scores between the two.

I studied from Barron’s… I know that the test are a lot harder there, though, the scores I talked about were from the official CB test book.
I’m planning on applying to Ivies (I’m a URM so it might be even possible); does it look better for the admission officers to have taken Level II even though I’m applying to a normal BA course?

And is it really so that the percentiles don’t matter? I mean for Chinese with listening their view on an 800 must differ from that for Literature for example?

I do think taking Math II would be better I think some schools have stopped accepting Math I, and only Math II, so…

BTW, I honestly believe taking SAT II for Chinese is not gonna count for much for anyone at all I’m not Chinese but I think the questions are too simple as it is :P

Percentiles really don’t matter. A score designates how accomplished you are in that subject. Colleges simply want to see a good score rather than a high percentile.

Ok, but the measures are different subject from subject, aren’t they? I mean even if the commissionners don’t look at the percentiles, they have to be aware of the fact that it is objectively more possible to get an 800 hundred on Math II than on Literature, right??? (I hope so, as I’m taking lit as well and am expecting a low-700…:)
