Math Iic Discussion Thread

It was 1/pi. We discussed it in the earlier pages.
Period is 2pi/b and b was 2, making the period pi. I think the equation was 4sin(2x-pi/4) or something like that. I also graphed it and found the period to be pi.

two questions:

when are the scores coming out??

for the subsets problem (where you pick 3 out of 5 and 4 out of 5) isn't it..
5C3 + 5C4 = 15??

the scores are posted up online on the Dec. 21

anyone know how to do the subsets question and are confident aout their answr??

POSITIVE
It is 5!/(3!(5-3)!) + 5!/(4!(5-4)! That would be 15

awesome!!!!!!!!!

zomg i have so many wrong lol!

wasnt there a question testing the concept of f(-x)=f(x) or w/e.
The only thing I do remember about this q is that I ended up choosing the answer -x... anyone else remember this?

and so which was the answer 10t-40 or 10t-60?

I got the subsets wrong :(

iamnervous, i think i got 15 something for the Riemann sum too! Can anyone explain why this is wrong??

and I think the answer choice for "CONTROVERSIAL" PLANE question lol was 2.4, not 2.3, but im not sure.

I think it was that too. There were only two choices starting with "2", lol. The second choice was too high (2.9 or 2.8). The other one was right, I think (I hope).

did you get -x for an answer for any of the questions?

caesar the rates problem about the man and woman was A, whatever that answer was, think 10t-60

also, the last problem...the answer is B.

Does anyone remember if on the 2-sinx and the 3+cos5x if the x values had to be the same for both functions when multiplying the maximum values?

Errr...I thought we discussed this already. You can't use the Law of Sines

d=y-x (I think we can agree on this)

tan 27= 8/y
y=8/tan 27 (Distance to furthest city)

tan 39=8/x
x=8/tan 39 (Distance to nearest city

d=8/tan 27- 8/tan 39
d=5.1

As for the riemann sum, you need to use the right bounds (4,6, and 8). The equation was ln (x^2) and the width was 2. You might actually solve it via sigma notation but that could prove a bit cumbersome. The answer is 21.0

I used law of sines once I found the angles for the non-right triangle, and used tan to find one side. Let me see if I can remember it and put it on paper.

oh i see why i got it wrong, I remember then taking the left bounds and averaging the area lol...

The answer to the plane question is 5.8.
Here is how you do it
Break the diagram up into two triangles, one of which has angles of 51 and 39, and the other which has angles of 63 and 27.
We then use the appropriate laws of sines for BOTH triangles:
8/sin39=x/sin51 getting x to equal 9.9
8/sin 27= x/sin 63 getting x to equal 15.7.
We then proceed to subtract the distances from one another
15.7-9.9
5.8

Sorry, you're right. When I calculate my technique it comes out to 5.8.

iamnervous: When I do it your way, I still get 5.8

12.7/sin 27= d/sin 12

I guess that one is wrong too... it just seemed right when I did it on the test. So far that's 4 wrong from what we discussed.

Wait for the Riemann sums one does it really make a difference whether it's right or left when you find the values for the length?

I personally always take the left bound but they should both yield the same values, or approximately similar values.
