Math Iic Discussion Thread

i skipped 6, and got the plane one wrong. i didn't consider the point possible.. also, i answered 12 for the max val f that sine and cosine expression, but didn't consider if that was ever possible given one value of theta. fackk... i just did something like (2+1)(3+1). the rest i totally chugged through with my ti-89, and am sure i got correct. 50-6-2-.5=41.5. oh boy.

this was sooooooooo hard. mainly cuz of the time constraint

And there was a question about the value of theta. Theta was spanning quadrants 1, 2 and part of 3. Luckily I had remembered from Barrons that: Tan theta = (m1+m2)/(1-m1m2). I used that to find the angle between the line going through the point they gave us, and y=0. I added that angle to 180 and got 219 or something.

same here, iamnervous!

but, oh man. i guess no 800 this time.

edit: there are 50 total questions, right?

What did you get for the 3 planes intersecting one? I put they can form either a point or a line.

Can 3 planes really form a ray?

yes!! i got it right

The intersection of three planes is either a point, a line, or there is no intersection (any two of the planes are parallel).

Yeah, you're right. I got that one wrong then :(

yes! i got something right that nervous got wrong!!!!

jk :)

lol :P I'm sure I got a few more wrong, I just can't remember the questions...

what'd you put for the two city length difference ?

oh and the riemann sum one (the 4 rectangles under the ln x^2) one was 21 or something rite??

How about the question:
Which interval contains solutions to:
(x+3)(x+2)(x-2)(x-4) < 0

wouldn't the answer be -3<x<-2, 2<x<4?

i dunno if that was a chioce b/c i didn't take dec.

both should work, maybe they only gave you one of them as a choice

They only gave -3<x<-2 as an answer.

yea then it should be right

rectangle one was 21.02 or something like that --- what was the answer to the one with the cities?

chalk another one wrong....4 so far...3 omit

it'd be awesome if 42 was 800 this time

The two cities difference, I got 2.3 or 2.5 (forgot what the decimal was).
For the area, I got 15. I had added individual rectangle areas and got 16 something, so I went for the closest one - 15. Not sure if that was right or not.

no nervous, the cities one was 5.8 something, and the rectangles one was 21.02

An airplane is at an altitude of 8 km flying towards cities A and B. Angles 37,25... Distace between A and B?
I got 2.3 or 2.5... forgot what the exact decimal was, but it was the only choice close to my calculations.
I used tan to get the base to the left of the first city, then did law of sines to get the answer.

look:

the distance is 8/tan 27 - 8/tan 39 = 15.7-9.9 = 5.8ish

anyone else know how to explain this better?

altho i got it wrong, the plane question's answer was 5.81....for that question, wat is the angle of point (-3,-5)?....i did tan^-1 (5/3), and added 180, since it was 3rd quadrant...that got me 239 degrees..not 219??
