How many of you have taken and done well on the Math IIC without a TI89. I have an 84 silver edition...will this suffice? I'm hoping for 750+

A TI-84 should be fine. There aren't that many questions which actually need the fancier elements of the graphing calculators. I actually used an old TI-83 and scored an 800 with it. I though I could even have gotten away with just a plain scientific calculator if I had wanted to.

I took it with a TI-83 and felt quite comfortable on the test.

Got an 800, for what it's worth.

Ditto, TI-83 got me an 800.

Ok great, some people on this site make it seem like a TI89 is almost necessary to score an 800...thanks for your responses guys!

Yeah but you have to MASTER how to use it. If you dont, you're way better off with a regular calculator. So start practicing with it now. How to find aymptotes,etc..

I had a TI84 Silver Edition and got a 760

I used a TI-85 (over 9 years old) and I got a 780.

Since I got TI-89, it saved me time on average on 4 questions on every Math IIC I have taken. If you are a fast solver (I am not), you'll do fine with any graphing TI, even if you are bent on getting nothing but 800.

TI-83 and got a 740. There were no calculations that it couldn't handle.

If what gcf101 said is true (that it only really helps on 4 questions) then I am not really worried at all.

How about a TI 86?

I also used an 83+ and got an 800 with 15 minutes to spare, I even had time to write a program that simulated one of the probability questions and spit out the answer

It's true you don't NEED a TI89-T, but the whole object is it helps more. It only helps on 4? It helped me with more than 4, that's all I remember.

Everyone on this site is smart, so they're going to be able to do it with anything, probably by hand also. You can't really get your questions answered from people that were going to get an 800 no matter what.

It's like internet: ya, you'll get to the same page, but cable internet is faster than dial-up. You can go wireless with cable internet also; it's got many functions.

glucose101 - I am not sure if you are pointing to the benefits of using a TI-89 vs TI<89. What I meant was that on those four questions I got answers much faster with a TI-89 than I would have with previous models.

I'm pointing out the differences between the 84 and 89 for the OP

83+ works quite well for me. Does everything needed for Barrons questions. I can't wait to do the test when school resumes

TI - 89 has its advantages. All those algebraic equations can be covered with the automatic functions on the F2 ( I think ) tab. Same with limits and summations (F3 tab). Hell, even floor and ceiling functions are covered if you check in the catalog. :)

Once you know your way around , it helps on any test a great deal (just used it for a practice math test, and I got to answering 46 questions in 55 minutes, which is pretty bad, but for a first time back into math SATs, it's alright I guess)
