Math is going to stop me from going to college

SAT results:
Verbal: 660
Math: 500
Reading: 680

I don't see that Math score going up very much. It's not that I'm bad at math, I passed my Math course this year with a 98 and have always maintained decent grades in my Math courses (some honors, but mostly regular).

I'm going to take AP Calculus next year and hopefully score a 4 or 5, as well as take the Math 2 SAT subject test.

Despite that fact that I'm an otherwise great student, I feel like colleges are still going to judge me based on that SAT score.

Is this just an irrational fear or should I go through with my plans for next year? :/

Eh, depends on the college and major. If you’re looking at something like engineering or going to Math-focused school, you’ll need to bring it up and/or do well on the Math Subject test.

And, if you haven’t already, take the test again in October! You might not see it going up, but the simple fact of already having done it will give you better time management and focus.

Have you tried the ACT?

I want to get into building websites and digital media so I’m looking at a Computer Science major - I have also taken the ACT, I should get my scores back soon, hoping for the best :/

Yes some colleges will judge you based on that score. But many won’t judge you. Your task is to find the colleges that will take you. Sounds like you should take some digital media courses rather than compsci, too.

It’s almost like a painter who says they should major in Chemistry since he’s going to deal with paints. CompSci is about programming and writing code. You need courses on visual presentation… Good luck to you.
