I'm trying to decide whether I should take the Math Level 2 subject test. I'm taking level 1 in November, but I'm not sure whether I should take the 2nd. I'm only in Trig now, and I don't plan on taking Pre-calc; I plan on going straight to Calc AB.

I plan on applying to MIT, and what I really want to know is do they honestly care about which one you have. I plan on majoring in chemistry, maybe physics.

Are they biased to the math level 1?

To apply to a prestigious STEM school like MIT, taking the math level 2 is highly recommended. They’re not biased, but they prefer you take the level 2.

Ok, you can skip precalc, but be warned that MUCH of the stuff(ok maybe not that much) on the test is precalc material, so you’ll have to make up for alot of it

At my school most people skip pre-calc, but I will make up for it… And is the subject test mostly precalc or mostly trig?

I would say more pre-calc than trig on the test but at our school, pre-calc involved trig. The test is mainly made out of algebra(in which pre-calc takes a part in), functions(precalc too), geometry, a little trig, a little number and ops, a little data analysis/stats/probability in respective order of most to last.

math level1 is like the math part of the SAT, so it really doesn’t add anything to your application. Take math2. It is possible to get a 800 even with a few errors

I plan on taking the ACT though.^ And I think I will take it, and if it’s a bad score I’ll just submit the ML2.
