Math Level 2 - January

I'm going to be lucky if I got a 680 on this...

yo how do you get 8.125?...
(4+2.5)x2.4375/2

Isnt that 7.92?

yes....ok lets just SAY it said trapezoid then it is around 7. i reallly hope it did!

they said trapeaoid... im sure its 8.125

if they said it was a trapezoid, then its not 8.125

base 1 of the trapezoid would be 2.5 because its given.
base 2 of the trapezoid would be 4 because 2x2 = 4
the height you had to find by dividing 2.5 by 2 and finding what y was equal to at either -1.25 or 1.25 which came out to be 2.4375.
then you do ((base1 + base2)h)/2 which is equal to 7.921875

you can't just estimate the height to be 2.5, if you did then you got 8.125

seriously, theres nothing more to this problem then the solution I provided, unless it didn't say trapezoid of course

wth for the "trapezoid" question

((b1 + b2)H)/2

((2.5+4)2.5)/2 = 8.125 it doesnt give you anything in the 7s

there was an answer 8.13

The height is not 2.5 but f(1.25) where it is 1.25 due to symmetry.

but...but...but... ****

6 wrong - and i thought i was good at math

what's considered a good score??

yeah most people just estimated the height, f(1.25) = 2.4375 thus its 7.9

You definitely are good at math. I know a lot of kids that don't even try to take the test, and if they do, they would do horrendous. The fact that you messed up due to a small oversight doesn't mean you're bad at math, just that you were careless.

There's a kid in our school who we had on our team during a math relay. His problem clearly said to add the number he would receive from us to his answer, rounded to the nearest hundredth. Instead of 3.99, he put 4 and we were mad, but we never once said he was bad at math.

i dont know but i dont think you can just assume the height is 2.5. if you 1.25 into 4-x^2 you get Y= 2.4375 and i used that for the height. o well...i guess we'll find out some day!!

don't even say you're bad at math!!! this is actually my second time taking the same exact test and i STILL might not get an 800, haha. don't sweat it.

lol same xD its ridiculous of collegeboard, those idiots.

anyways, I do feel like a failure that 12% of the people get 800s on this test :(

thanks for the words of wisdom/hope/encouragement/whatever...

i agree... i am good at math... comparatively to a lot of people

but... to get into a good college you have to be great at math... you cant make the stupid mistakes...

i've missed so many EASY points in math competitions... id be in first place... instead i have to settle for fourth ... my lifes story

Guys, there's always going to be people better at math than us. I've decided to just push on with my life and make the best of it.

niiice lifelessons guys ..but uhm
abssolute value of tangent something ..... what was ur answers? haha

What was the answer to the period of abs(tan3PIx) or something. I know that it was absolute value of tangent, but not sure about the inside. I think I put 1/3 or something. The absolute value confused me! W/out it, it would have been 1/3 for sure I believe.

How about the shift of the sinx two pi over to the right or something? I put sinx(x-pi/2), and graphed it, and I think it was right.

How about the standard deviation problem? I put the answer with 8,10,10,10,10,12 or something similar to that...I'm so scared of getting these wrong. :(

I omitted 11. ELEVEN omits. :(

yeah, its so discouraging not to get an 800 on this. when i got my scores last time i remember thinking "great, i'm good at math but i can't prove it on a stupid one hour test." in reality this test will not be considered the deciding factor in you being accepted into a good college. If you truly are "good" at math there are much better indicators than standarized tests.

yeah i dontremeber the tan one but got teh same thing for the sin

yah it was absolute tan.. 2x? or x? cant remember..
and the answer choice was like pi/2 or pi/4.. i coudlnt debate

The shift of the sinx2pi over to the right thing.. thats what i got too.

The standard deviation i think i put like second to the last choice, D...

abs(tan 2x) - period was pi/2???? plzz plz say i'm right!
