Math Level 2: Taking it without a Pre-Calc Background

Hey, I was thinking of taking the Math Level 2 this school year, but I won't take Pre-Calc until next school year. Is this an okay idea? I don't see why I should take Math Level 1 when its curve is awful and if there aren't much Pre-Calc questions on the Math Level 2.

Thanks a lot.

It’s fine. Just self-study to prepare for it.

It’s perfectly fine. I never took precal (wen’t directly from Algebra 2 to Calculus), and I’m taking it this November. Use Barron’s to prep, it has excellent material and tests.

Easily get a 800 with TI-89 or TI-Nspire… Just plug all of the questions in…

Get a practice book and take one of the tests in it, and see how you do. Realize you will be putting yourself at a severe disadvantage because almost all of the students will have already completed precalc and often several classes beyond that level. The curve might be a bit more generous but the level being tested is much higher.

If you believe you are somewhat qualified to take the higher level exam without the usual math course prerequisites, you shouldn’t worry about taking the lower level exam with the supposedly tougher curve–you should kill it!

or… why not just wait to take the Math II exam next year?

The first time I took the test I made a 690…totally embarrassing…I took that with half of trigonometry; I didn’t realize I had to fill in many gaps, but once I did, I scored an 800…if you honestly study a bit, you’ll be fine!
