Math Level II December 3, 2011 Curve/Discussion

let me try to put the circle question to rest…
(x-3)^2 + (y+1)^2 = 25 was the original equation. the center is at (3,-1). if you want it to shift it 5 units right and 2 units down, the center would be at (8,-3). thus, the new equation would be (D) (x-8)^2 + (y+3)^2 = 25

^the equation is rite, but im not sure about the letter

perfect cube question p^2r^5t^7 or something like that where p, r, and t are all distinct primes. dunno answer

i got 3^9 x 5^9 x 7^9. not sure if thats the lowest though :[ im hoping

Arithmetic sequence: started at 1, kept on adding 7, answer was something like 92?

i got something in the seventies i think

we shud be trying to complete the list guys, our memory will fade soon =/

okay i agree with you physicsboy32 about 17, but if you go back someone else put an explanation with a different answer i still am not sure.

HUBRID:
The center of the original circle was (3, -1). If you shift it 5 units right and 2 units down, the center changes to (8, -3), which gives (x-8)^2 + (y+3)^2 = 25. If the question said 2 units up, then the new center would have been (8,1) and your answer ( (x-8)^2 + (y-1)^2 = 25 ) would be correct. Can someone confirm it was DOWN 2, not UP 2?

it was down 2 confirmed.

f(x) = 1/(x^2+2) For which value of x is f(x) closest to 0.01. That one has two correct answers! Both 9 and 10 give pretty much the same answer.

the answer was 10. confirm?

Is there a fast way to do the aritmethic sequence one? I simply kept adding 7 on my calculator until I got all the answers :smiley: But I felt dumb.

yes, answer was 10 for that one

I put 10 too but the difference between 9 and 10 was like 0.000002 ***

im wrong about the cube one. I did it on my calc and got a number.999999. during the test i just saw the decimal and eliminated it… im stupid ._. .999999999 = whole number so previous poster was rite

just double confirming 10 is rite

Is there a fast way to do the aritmethic sequence one? I simply kept adding 7 on my calculator until I got all the answers But I felt dumb.

i did the same way

does anybody else have an idea for the graph of the -abs(f(x))? i put the one that was entirely below that y-axis and exited in the 3rd and 4th quadrants… which i think was choice B. im sitting at 2 wrong and 3 omit right now, so this is the question that will make me or break me

chopstick, i put it entire below the y axis

because the absolute value makes it entirely above and then the negative switches all the y values below the x-axis. that was my logic

^ yep. just hoping someone has a definitive answer

my raw is sitting at a 44 rite now D;

the clock at my room wasn’t working. ***. there was a working clock behind the broken clock they put up, and they wudn’t take down the broken clock. ._. I also got the answer to the last 1, but was sitting rite in the front and the test just ended. such bad luck lol

Do you guys remember this question? sin x < cos x
was the answer 0<x<45

yes i got that

wait… i think i put <= 45. was there also a < 45 choice??
