Math Levels 31A-33B

well i think it is a legit reason

QUESTION:
for someone who DIDN'T take AP Calc in HS (i took honors Calculus, and did well) what math class should I be looking to take? or do I just determind based on what my placement score says?

dont you have to start out at the first one because you didnt pass out of them with ap scores?

You have to take the math placement exam and you'll be placed according to the scores.

Okay. So I'll be going in at 33A (but in winter b/c I would like to wait for better professor and cash in on my priority enrollment through CEED)... I don't really have a choice b/c I have tons of college credit for math coming in - as a first year - and taking any lower level math course would count as an unecessary class and wouldn't count for anything.

So my question is: What professor should I take? Please suggest based on ease of A and also on teaching capabilities (i.e. accent, eccentricity,boring... etc.)

Thanks.

Zhang and Ralston are teaching 33A in Winter 2008.
Read the reviews - Ralston is a fair professor. No information is provided for Zhang.

Ease of A is not the primary variable you would like to seek while selecting a professor, but rather the effectiveness of teaching. Linear algebra has important concepts, although 33A is primarily computational, which will carry onto future math and engineering courses.

As for accents, you get used to it. Many professors have accents, but are still bright teachers.

Does getting a 5 on the AP Calculus AB Exam allow me to skip Math31A? On this page, http://www.math.ucla.edu/ugrad/apcredit.shtml, it says I get credit for Math31A with a 5 on the AP Calculus AB Exam. But on this page, http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/APCreditEN.htm, it says I only receive 4 units of calculus credit.

^ Yes if you're in L&S, but no if you're in HSSEAS, the engineering school (That's what the 2nd link is to)

Actually, HSSEAS gives you a choice at orientation of picking 31A/31B for 5 on AB or 4 on BC, and 31B/32A for 5 on BC.

If I got a 5 on the AP Calculus AB Exam, will I still have to take the math placement exam?

No, you don't.

Yes, you will have to, unless they changed the standards this year. From last year, if you did not receive a 5 on BC, you had to take the placement test.

MrSpam is right. They changed it this year. If you got a 5 on AB, you don't have to take the test, and enroll in 31B or 3B.

i've got a question, for math33a, do i need to buy all three of those text books listed for Wylie's class?
