Math Major + Econ

Is there anyone who can speak to the strength of the Math major at Middlebury? I plan on doubling in Math and Econ wherever I go and I know Midd has great econ but I'm not sure about Math. Do they offer a good selection of courses and are there more applied courses available?

Do they really not offer Calc III? And only one RA course? That can’t be right…

The econ program looks wonderful, but I’ve looked all over their site and don’t see any mention of math courses beyond the ones listed at the link above --ie, no Partial Diff Eq and no advanced topology, RA, CA, linear algebra, or combinatorics… That is very strange. Especially considering Middlebury’s (excellent) reputation.

bump… 10 char

In “information about the department” there is a “coordinator” listed. Maybe you could e-mail the person?

^ Good idea. When you do find out, let me know. I’m very curious.

I think they call Calc III not by saying “Calc III” but by what is actually studied in traditional calc III at other schools. Maybe I’ll shoot them an email. Though I’d feel silly sending an email even though regular decisions have yet to come back.

That is possible…although every university from MIT to Mississippi State offers a course called “Calc III.” Like I said, I’m curious! :)

Do you mean third semester college calculus? multivariable/multivariate/several variable calculus, Math 223 here?
FWIW, I think the name Calculus III is less used at liberal arts colleges.
The first two I checked did not have a class called Calculus III:
