math major transfer UCLA and UCB

so basically i am majoring in math and computer science, and i have a question lets say i get a B in calc 1 and calc 2 but in the rest of my classes i got an A including igetc and transfer requirements ! would getting B in those to classes affect me differently from getting a B in igetc classes ? like you get my question ? so since my major is math and i got a B in two math classes would that look as bad as getting a B in 2 non math classes ? or would it look worse ? and what about gpa for math students ? does anyone know the range of gpa's of math majors that got accepted through transfer to ucla and ucb ?

THANK SO MUCH !

I would apply anyway, since AFAIK they just look at your overall transferable GPA. I’m a math major too!

B’s in calculus would look worse than B’s in GEs, probably not enough to lose sleep over. But assuming you only got those 2 B’s in calculus and A’s in EVERYTHING ELSE, then you’re fine.

now i have the option of retaking the classes and lets say i get an A in the retake time ! now when ill send my grades they will see both the A and the B that i got in that same class ! do you think it would make it look better ?and what AFAIK ?

sorry for the double post any other opinions ???

Not worth retaking B’s. Do well in calc 3, diff eq, and linear algebra and you should be fine.

Its not that much of a problem ! But still do these B;s look worse

I thought you couldn’t retake if you got a passing grade. But sure, whatever floats your boat.

There’s no need to retake them. Math department really needs more people to declare. As long as ur overall GPA is like a 3.5+ you’re golden. Don’t fret, it’s not a very popular major

Well basically I can appeal my grade and then they will let me take it. But supa_ramshackle u sure 3.5 is golden ?

well I got a B in precalc, C in calc1, A in stats and I’m a math major lol. I’m applying to UCB UCSD AND UCD (got in for TAG). I’m in calc2 right now and will be taking calc3+ diff/eq next sem. good luck!

If you can not get an A in both Calculus I and Calculus II at a community college I am not sure you want to be a math major at UCB or UCLA. It may be true that Calculus I - III using the Stewart textbook are not easy courses, but upper division Math courses are vastly more difficult. A B in those courses would be perfectly fine for an Engineering major, someone you wants to major in math should get an A in each of those courses without breaking a sweat.
