I have some basic questions about these two majors. I know I have a lot of questions, but I don't want to make a mistake when applying.

What are the differences between the two majors?

How impacted is a Math major?
How impacted is an engineering with Mathematics and Statistics major? Is it as hard to get into as the other engineering majors

Are the two majors comparable curriculum?

In engineering with math and stats can I still pursue my interest in Comp sci., or is the major too rigorous?

Engineering/math is a major basically intended for those engineers who want to heavily supplement their (still primarily engineering/CS education) with mathematics at the level of the upper division work here. So you can’t go into it thinking you can just take a lot of math classes and just a little engineering – it should be the other way around. Typically the College of Engineering’s majors are more rigid somehow.

With engineering/math, honestly you should have a lot of freedom on what in engineering you want to pursue.

The math major is basically intended to teach you lots of math, and you won’t be needing to take classes outside the department, unless you do applied math.

Neither, I think, is particularly heavy on requirements, as engineering/math is really a fluid major designed for people who’ll design their own curriculum. I don’t think it’ll be as competitive as other engineering majors to get into, but of course your classes will be in various departments of engineering, as well as in math and some of this may be very competitive.
