I am a freshman and am curentlly in Alg. 2; I'm wondering if I should take math methods or math studies. Any one who has any comments?

you cant really study for math.

math methods if you want a challenge; studies is beyond a joke

Take Math HL if its offered.

Take Math Methods!!!
Never take Studies unless you are completely useless at math and will definetly not need it in uni. Actually, most universities (in Canada anyways), will take regular stream Math as a prereq and not even consider Math Studies... :S

math studies is just different from methods... not exactly ALOT easier. I'd say methods, the amount of stats on math studies's mock scared me off.

It really depends on what kind of math you want to do.

Math Studies- Basically a statistics course. Depending on your teacher, it may prepare you for the AP Stats exam.

Math Methods- Basically a pre-cal/calc course. Depending on your teacher, it may prepare you for the AP Calc AB exam. My personal preference.

Math HL- Basically a calc course, but it includes more topics than Calc BC.

Studies students usually take AP Stats afterwards; Methods students usually take AP Calc BC afterwards (like me). Many colleges will not accept either for college credit unless you take the AP exam.

CT? Is that you?

I took a class called Math Investigations and it was one of my absolute favorite courses I've ever taken...we did MathCounts in middle school. I don't think that's the same as what you are talking about though.

This person is referring to the IB courses.. if you're strong in math, do Math HL. Otherwise do Math Methods or Math Studies.

nah SL prepares you for like half yr of calc AB with a bit intergration. not really deep into any topics since the chapter is supposed to be like 1-2 months, and HL goes a bit beyond calc BC, the HL exam is just plain freaky.

Definately go for math methods or math HL...
If you are already taking algebra 2, then DO NOT TAKE MATH STUDIES!! At our school, math studies is considered easier than algebra 2...(although not totally, because some topics like stats arent covered in studies)
however, are you planning to do the IB diploma? if so, then I wouldnt suggest taking math HL, because its a 2 year course..unless you can take some other math class your junior year, and then take the second year of HL math in your senior year.

I Pick Methods but amfreaked out abouthow all the juniors who say that theclass is so hard . What alot of people do is test out in junior and senior year take ap stats , is that a good idea cause our school doesn't offer hl methods cause the teachers are to dumb and no one can pass the exam . Thats the florida school system for u .

I am about done with the first year of methods as a sophomore. Right now I am signed up for math studies, because I can't continue on with math methods... I have the option of doing math HL, but I'm doing 3 sports, and all I hear is horror stories about Math HL... It's not too late to change, but I don't know... I don't want to go in there and get anthing less than a B. I'm pretty lazy, and have gotten a 4.5 thus far, but I just don't know about HL math... any advice?
