Just some questions about math midterms:

1) How difficult are they? Managable in 1 hour?
2) What are the medians or how are they graded? Usually curved or normed?
3) How much time did you put into studying for them?

As a math minor, I feel somewhat qualified to answer.

Also, since I'm taking my 3rd math midterm of the quarter on Friday, I think I'd have an opinion.

1) The difficulty depends on the course and the professor. Most of them have been pretty managable for an hour, unless you really don't know what you're doing.
2) Almost every math midterm I've taken has been curved (a real bell curve). Again it depends on the professor. The medians again depend on the course, though most I've taken have hovered around 50 for a median (give or take 10), with an easier midterm a bit higher.
3) I usually start studying a few days before, at least to take a peak at the material and figure out what I need to work on.

Another question I wonder is, how similar are the practice midterms to the actual (in terms of difficulty).

why don't you go to SAC and find some math old exams to look at?

Im a math major and upper division isn't as easy as I thought it'd be. It does depend on the teacher because one of mine is known for giving really hard test. 1hr isnt that bad if you know what your doing. If you don't know what your doing, that 1hr feels like a lot more hehe.

i had my math 3a midterm. 1 hr is enough time to finish, but its really difficult to double check your work

I just took my math midterm today and I probably got at most 15/40. What would that translate to with a curve (typical range)?

I'm hoping at least 75%??

if you have lee he put the scores up on my.ucla.edu

Any idea if Lee's test was normed or curved? :)

typically, what your "grade" is depends on the average and the std div...

Anyone else had trouble with the math 31A midterm?

oh my goodness, the math 31a with brown was impossible.
but I ended up getting most of it right, thanks to lady luck.

yeah a couple of my friends told me that it (31A) was a hard exam. don't feel like you're the only ones who had trouble because i think everyone did.

When are you able to find out if the test was graded on a curve and how it was curved?

I don't know about math, but my astro 4 teacher put up the curve within a week on the class website.
