For those wanting to read and comment on what President Zimmer has done financially for the University, here's a great article.

Thank you for posting this, beefs.

bump because I think its relevant.

bump 20

The last bit on religion makes me incredibly happy. I have been forced to sit through religious drivel at too many formal university ceremonies.

"He plans to expand the U of C's mega-brand in economics by offering more visiting professorships to qualified scholars."

This is really, really smart, and should be done in several other departments. Right now most of the visiting spots are for rank and file scholars. They should be spending cash on the big names for a year at a wack to mostly teach. LSE seems to do this quite well.

I love how he turned a deficit into a huge surplus in a year.

^^^ yeah he cut all the undergrad's financial aid

only partially kidding

^it sure seems like it

lol? Odyssey.. yea...

^That doesn't affect at least 3/4 of the people who go the school.

Goddamn. Did he really cut tons of undergrad FA? That explains the terrible FA package I got.

If that's what happened, it was a stupid choice. The FA is definitely going to decide whether I go to UChicago in the end or not.

It affects the 1/4 that really should be worried about paying for the university.

And spreading unfounded rumors really isn't the most productive way to vent...

I didn't. I said partially kidding. It was just meant to be funny due to all the people disappointed with their FA. I'm sure they give more than they used to.

And the Odyssey Scholarship is bullcrap. This is venting. My mom makes less than 70,000 and my dad makes way more but they are separated and he isn't giving me any $$. HOWEVER, they figure him in for like 10k (which i wont get), therefore taking away my odyssey money.

Yea, that is quite lame, my best goes out to ya.

If you're considering turning down the UofC because of bad financial aid (and you've got other, better offers coming in from other schools) I'd highly suggest calling them. Just explain your situation, and let them know you really want to come but you've got better offers and financially just can't come to UChicago. Make sure you have a good attitude, too, it can go a long way especially when I'm sure our financial aid office gets a lot of angry calls. I had to make my Dad call last year because I knew I'd get a bit ruffled, and we got some things worked out.

Wish y'all my best.. kinda forgot how stressful last year was :P
