Hey everyone! I'm super excited that the MIT application is up and like most of you I cannot wait to start working on it! I have a question about the math or science recommendation though. Do you think a computer science teacher would count? I can think of a few math or science teachers that would give me stellar recommendations but I think my best chance lies with my computer science teacher who has taught me programming. If not, do you think I should have him do a supplementary one? Thanks in advance for a response! :)

If I remember correctly, MIT requires one math/science rec letter, one humanities rec letter, and one counselor rec letter. Not sure if computer science counts, but I think they’ll accept that. After all, MIT has an entire major dedicated to computer science and electrical engineering (course 6).

Computer science definitely counts as math/science.

Absolutely – a CS teacher is listed as one of the potential math/science letter writers on the [admissions webpage](Letters of recommendation | MIT Admissions).

Thanks guys! And yes, I know about course 6 and plan on studying it if I get accepted!
