Congrats on OSU orangelights! Where do you plan on going?

Out of curiousity,

Has anyone here heard from the Applied Math programs from U.Michigan, Cornell, and UCSD?? Or the math program at U. Minnesota?

There's time till the 4/15 decision date but the last I heard anything from anyone (acceptance/reject/waitlist) is two weeks ago.

Minnesota got hit hard by budget cuts. They are severely cutting back on admissions this year so they won't be in debt when things (hopefully) return to normal next year. I think they made all the offers they're going to make, unless practically nobody accepts. If I get the chance, I'll try and ask about Michigan's AIM program tomorrow.

dilksy, you are one knowledgeable person. Thanks again for the information!

As someone who is attending Minnesota next year (Stats PhD, not Math), I can confirm that they are anticipating a 10% reduction in state funding for 2010 and 2011. I know that UMN Stats usually accepts 8-10 people per year, but are aiming for about 5-6 this year.

I'm sure this is the case at most public universities.

As of right now, I have only heard from 3 of the 9 schools I applied to. Is this normal?

Cutbacks are far more severe for Minnesota pure math. Normal incoming class is around 25, they're shooting for 5 or 6.

Depends on which schools. Some do rolling admissions, so it's like everybody is automatically on the waitlist until they get accepted or the class fills up. Some schools don't send out acceptances until really late (around now). Some schools that sent out acceptances somewhat recently might still be getting around to sending out rejections. It's not unheard of, but kind of strange that you haven't heard back from that many.

Woot! I got into UCSD. My top choice. Yesssss.

You the one that posted on thegradcafe? Check the response =P.

Hi,
Is anyone here still waiting to hear something from Stony Brook pure math? Has anyone tried calling or emailing them? They are seriously driving me nuts with their silence. Thank you.

That actually wasn't me who posted on the gradcafe :o. Weird. A friend of mine heard back from them today as well. Perhaps today was just second round acceptance day?

BTW, dilksy. What did you think of the Berkeley open house? (I'm assuming you were there)

Dilksy, I'd like to know about Berkeley Open House too, if you happened to be there. :)

Fetton, congrats on your acceptance to UCSD. I remember you got in Berkeley. I want to know why you prefer UCSD to Berkeley, if you feel okay to share your opinion.

I haven't been checking this thread exhaustively, but I'm planning on attending Brown next year for Applied Math. Is anyone else headed to Providence?

I've still only heard from 5 of 13... Congrats to everyone who got into uscd, I didn't hear from them so I'll assume I'm rejected.

I have not heard back from UCSD, I guess they are done with 2nd round admits. And Duke just has been completely silent regarding their admissions, so I'm pretty much done waiting on them. I am very close to officially accepting UT's offer.

Berkeley seems like it could be a great place for a lot of people. Just not people like me, or people wanting to study the things I want to. In retrospect, I think if I would have looked into it more, I could have ruled them out before I even applied. I guess it at least gave me a better indication of where I stand, since at least in the overall rankings there's a big gap between MIT and the other schools I applied to.

I got waitlisted at Duke, I hope they notify me sooner than later what my final status is.

Dilksy, may I ask what you intend to study? I am making a decision too.

Algebraic Combinatorics.

It seems like Duke rejected or waitlisted people today (according to grad cafe), yet I heard nothing. Has anyone else not heard from Duke? Maybe I should contact them. I'm nervous about contacting schools because I don't want to inconvenience anyone.
