Math Placement Exam

Since the time slot for students from the College Letters and Science opened up last Thursday (24th), I’d thought I’d start this feed. I just completed the Math Placement Exam and I personally believe it wasn’t difficult at all. Though high school calculus was already under my belt, I went in very nervous because the results would decide my math class for the Fall.

Some tips:

 • look over the review UCD provides at <a href=“Math Placement :: math.ucdavis.edu”>Math Placement :: math.ucdavis.edu since the trig info was very helpful (I thought the review questions were actually harder than the test)
 • I only used a calculator for rudimentary operations that I couldn’t do off the top of my head. Technically, every question can be done on scratch paper, so don’t worry if your calculator doesn’t have a fancy tools like graphing.
 • The 90 minute time limit leaves a lot of room for checking answers. I began looking over my answers before 18 minutes and submitted it with 6 minutes left over.

I’ll put up my score within two days. Good Luck.

How was Chem?!

My son, a current 2nd year at UCD did very well on the Chem Placement Test by just reviewing his Honors Chem class notes, however; I will give you a warning that Chem 2A and B are so called “weed out” classes. It can be pretty tough and there is only 1 good professor: Enderle, whom will make your time bearable. If you have AP Chem under your belt, it shouldn’t be too bad.

I took the chem placement after two years removed from (non-honors) high school chem and got a high score just from looking over some review material online. It’s nothing to worry about. For the record, I did the same thing with the math placement except I was a year removed from calc AB at the time.
