Can we take math placement exams to opt out of Calculus (Math 1241)?
I will be going in as a pharmacy major, so I was thinking it would be less hectic if I got Math out of the way. [I took Calculus in high school btw, but since our school does not offer AP Calc, I was not able to get credit from it..]

bumping this

As far as I know, you can’t take a test to opt out of the class… you need AP credit or you’ll have to take it over again.

The math placement exams place you into either algebra or calc (and you’ll be able to talk to your advisor before placement is official), but they won’t test you out of anything.

A lot of freshman in my calc I class were in the same boat… or, if they were me at 18, they were slackers with senioritis and chose to draw elephants all over their AP calc exam instead of actually doing all those tedious derivatives.

Eh. Either way, if you took it in hs, Calc I will be an easy class and a nice A/A- on your transcript.

So do we still have to take math placement exams during orientation/welcome week when we already took calculus in high school? Just wondering.

yeah, you’ll have to take it anyway. Back in my day it was mostly algebra and then like 3 calc questions, pretty quick and easy.

We (high school class of 08) didn’t take any math placement test during orientation, so I’m not sure if they do it anymore.

is there any other placement exams we must take?

The only placement tests are for languages. Other than that, the only way you can place out of classes is with AP/IB/transfer credit.
