Hey does anyone know how CAS determines what level of math you take as a freshman? Links will be appreciated. Thanks!

Orientation has placement exams, I believe. There's also the AP exam scores.

I read that you can't use scientific calculators for the placement tests. Does anyone know which kind you can use, if any? I'm hopeless without my TI-83.

VivianH, that's too bad. If I remember correctly, none of the calc classes (maybe the linear algebra classes, too) allowed calculators. You should start brushing up your non-calculator math now.

so they make placement based on the placement test, not the grade in the class? I was reading that you need certain grades to take those classes?

Yeah, in linear algebra, you're not allowed to use calculators. But the tests are designed to be taken calculator-less. It's good to gain independence from your calculator, though.
