Is there a math placement test at CalSO? I've checked out the math department's page, but it really isn't clear- it has an online math placement test it says you should take before picking a class, but that's it. Does anyone know if we'll have to take an official placement test?

there is no placement test

no placement test, just pick the class you think you are suited for

If you have no AP credit, just take the on-line placement test that you found, assuming it is the one found here:

[Choosing the First Math Course at UC Berkeley - UC Berkeley Department of Mathematics](http://math.berkeley.edu/courses_1stcourse.html)

If you do have AP credit, try the sample Math 1A and Math 1B final exams found here to determine placement:

[Choosing an Appropriate First Math Course — UC Berkeley College of Engineering](http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/new-students/choosing-an-appropriate-first-math-course.html)

the placement test is more of a self-assessment, advice kind of thing. Advisors may talk about recommendations while you are at CalSO, as will people here on CC, but ultimately this is college and you will make the decision yourself.
