Math placement test beyond the EPT/ELM?

Wondering if someone like a current engineering major might be able to answer this ...

I was accepted to CSULB as a first-time freshman in mechanical engineering. Due to my SAT scores, I'm exempt from the EPT/ELM tests. I'm just finishing Pre-Calc this year with an A grade both semesters.

Apparently some of the other CSU's require incoming students in math-oriented majors such as engineering to take a math placement test beyond the EPT/ELM. Cal Poly Pomona, for example, has a test called the Math Diagnostic Placement Test that's required unless you test out in AP Calculus. I think I also saw something in the mail about a similar test at Northridge for engineering majors.

At CSULB I've paid my enrollment deposit and scheduled a SOAR session, and I haven't seen anything about any other required math test. Am I good to go just to sign up for Calc I (MATH 122) for the fall?

Yes, I believe you are good to go, LB would of notified you way sooner about a placement test.

So, everything is fine so far.

From the CSULB website:
[MDPT (Mathematics Diagnostics Placement Tests) - Calculus Readiness Exam | Department of Mathematics and Statistics](Math Placement for Incoming CNSM First-Time, First-Year Students | CNSM Academic Advising Center - College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics - California State University, Long Beach)

The next math placement test is May28, 2013
June+July test dates not posted.

Beerme, thanks, very helpful. My SAT scores aren’t quite high enough to make me exempt. Interesting that I wasn’t flagged on this in any of the registration materials.

A23-
You have to be very proactive and check CSULB’s website often for frosh stuff.
Don’t rely on flagging and notifications of important items, you find them.
You want to get a jump on everyone, so check early and often.
You should take the time to thoroughly read everything for freshman to know and put important dates/times on a calendar so you won’t forget.
Good luck.

I have to be honest and say I don’t know where I would have found that, if I hadn’t run across it in discussion at other CSU’s. But I’m very glad to be aware of it now. Thanks again!
