questions about math placement test:
1. what type of calculators, if any, are permitted?
2. are special eqns like surface area or volume of 3D objects given?
3. are students penalized for wrong problems?
4. is this on the computer or scantron?

thanks thanks..will be leaving tmro evening so i hope it's answere b4 then :)

tip: dont study much for it, or else it wont be an accurate diagnostic test.

for example, the 1st time i took the math diagnostic, i didnt study and got placed in Math 1 (Precalculus). Being the proud fool I was, I studied hard and took the test again, placing into Math 31A. I got a C in that class because my Precalculus foundation was really shaky.

If anything, if you really do know precalc, then Math 1 will serve both as a GPA booster and a math refresher course.

Can you pass into calculus 3B with the diagnostic test. I'm asking b/c I got a 3 on the AB and I think my score doesn't accurately reflect what I know. If not, do I even need to take the test because on the webpage it says under 3A "The student has UC or specific transfer credit for Precalculus, Math 1, with a grade of C- or better." meaning I'll be placed into 3A no matter what?

Is there any real fault to completely bombing this test? I have to eventually take Calc for my pre-major and what not but I didn't take calc in high school. I'm just scared it'll mean I have to take a lot of courses before I can take calc, haha I should start looking into things. This site has made me so lazy.

hm.... the site doesn't have anything about using the test to place into 3B.... does that mean it's impossible and I'm stuck in 3A :( ... But in the course listing it says under 3A "Not open for credit to students with credit in another calculus sequence." Does that include hs calc?
