So I just took the math placement test……I got U for undetermined. I was wondering if anyone else got this too. Apparently it means theres a discrepancy between how you do on the test and your grades, test scores, etc. I took AP Calc this year, have gotten all As in math classes, got a decent ACT math score……so does this mean I just did really bad on the placement test? When I took it it seemed fairly easy. I think if I did well though it would match my previous scores……
Anyway, just a little confused and annoyed I have to get to my orientation an hour earlier….

I remember this being an issue for alot of my friends my freshman year. If I remember right it just means theres a discrepency between grades and stuff like you said. It could also mean you fell right between to different levels and it didn’t know where to place you. When you get to orientation they will look at it and probably ask you questions about how you think you did on the AP test and how you feel about math in general to figure out where to place you. They did this to me my freshman year and as long as you seem confident and strongly opinionated they will place you where you ask. Now if you say I hope I got a 3 on the AP test and I want to start with calc 2 they probably won’t allow that. Don’t worry about it too much, just relax and let them figure it out so you can enjoy orientation.

Thank you so much! :)

The same thing just happened to my daughter. She got a U on the math test she took at home online. She also took AP Calc.
We just got back from orientation, and she was required to take the math test again, yes it is an hour before the orientation starts. This time she did better and had a more clear result. We decided to go with the flow and let OSU decide what math class she needed to take. OSU seems to do a very good job at guiding the incoming freshmen. And yes please enjoy the orientation, it is a great experience.
