Any idea what the math placement test is like? How long does it take?
It’s hard as hell, do the practice problems. Do your best! If you don’t have incoming AP Credit, your math class depends on it
I have noticed at UF that even if you place into Calc I, they are advising kids to start with precalculus. Something to keep in mind, no matter where you place on the test. Unless you’re a STEM whiz already, then this doesn’t apply to you. (I realize this is a UCF thread but it’s just a cautionary tale that college level calc is very fast-paced)
I’m dual enrolled and already finished College Algebra. I’m taking Statistics right now. Does it even matter what I get on the placement test? My major doesn’t require more math.
If you’re not taking any more math, it probably doesn’t matter at all. I think there’s a math gen ed requirement though. Make sure you have enough Gen Ed math to cover that from your dual enrollment.
omg! This placement test is insane! I can’t even get through the practice section to take the actual test. I’ve taken College Algebra (A 6 week summer class and it’s my only B!). This PRACTICE section is worse than the class. And why Trig and pre-calc?! My major doesn’t require either. I’ve never taken it.
What do I do if I can’t even pass the practice section? The kicker is - I won’t even NEED to take math at UCF.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It only helps determine the first math class you would take, if any.
If I don’t finish it will I be stopped from registering though?
Your picture is how I feel with this test!
Haha! (re the pic) I don’t know what’ll happen if you don’t finish. Can’t you do what you know, and Christmas tree the rest?
If you don’t finish you will be placed into Intermediate Algebra, which is below Colllege algebra (the absolute lowest math class). Take it just in case
@UCFin2018 you’re going to need to take it regardless because if you don’t they’ll just make you take in at orientation. And how are you not going to need to take math at UCF? Isn’t it part of your GED requirement?
@omarrrr When I graduate high school, I’ll also graduate with an AA from dual enrollment. I’ve finished all my college level math already.
Ohhh okay
“I’ve finished all my college level math already.”
You still have to take the Placement test.
@NASA2014 I did. I passed. My score was high enough to take the next test, but that’s just all kinds of nope!
BUT!! I have a friend who just went to orientation for Spring semester. Same situation as me. She didn’t take it and didn’t have to. She’s registered for classes with no problem.
