Alright so the college I am thinking of going to asks us to take a math placement test. Currently I am taking AP Calculus AB and I really love the class, do good in it and been acing it the whole year without a problem. I am confident that in such placement test, im going to score over Calc 1. The thing is that my teacher has recommended everyone to take Calc 1 in college again in order to go over little things that one forgets etc and also that its going to be really easy, an easy A+ since its all reviewing etc.

But i am just wondering, if you score over Calc 1 in such placement test, do they let you take Calc 1?

I think if you score high enough on your placement exam to place out of Calc I, then I think your school would advise you to register for Calc II. however at some schools, like Temple University, you would be asked to take a refresher-type math course before moving on to Calc II. However, if you feel that you won't be adequately prepared for Calc II then you can ask your advisor for advice on which courses to take until you are ready for Calc II

it would be unusual for a university to require you to start in Calc II if you wanted to take Calc I. I would recommend starting with Calc I, unless your high school class has been very rigorous. Since your teacher is recommending Calc I, I would guess it has been not as rigorous as it could be. If you retake it, be serious about it, do all the homework and study even if you think you know it. I can't tell you how many students I have seen who came to college thinking they knew calculus but were only familiar with it. Being familiar with it is not enough to do well in college calculus and the courses that depend on it.

When I went took placement tests, doing well immediately placed you in the next class (or fulfilled the requirement). You may have to speak to someone if you don't want that to happen. I also knew people who intentionally bombed their test so they would get placed in the easier class.

Your best source of information on this will be the coursebook, students, faculty and staff at your college. Do students with AP credit routinely place out of Calc I? If so, there may be a class that is geared to first semester freshmen with AP credit. If you place out of Calc I, you could start in Calc II and drop down if it moves too quickly. Take a look at the textbook and syllabus for your prospective class and see if it would be too much of a challenge for you. College classes do move quickly, and you are expected to do much of the learning on your own time, so consider your study habits.

I am a gigantic math geek and I voluntarily took Calculus One over. I did that for the review as well as to wean myself off of my TI 89 (which is prohibited at my University). Now, I did all that because I was working hard and all, and hadn't time for review. I dug it though and I did not feel guilty about the easy grade, because I honestly did expand my learning quite a bit with the University level Calculus One.

Now, if you have the time to review your mathematics the summer before your first semester...then review like the dickens and sign up for Calculus Two (because you will place in Calculus Two if you review a lot). Or even by crazy and take Calculus Two at a Community College prior to University.
