My son finally took the math placement (he is in honors program). For now he is a bio major - not sure if he will change later. He only took one test (not the additional one for certain majors).

I'm not sure he was at his best when he took it. He had a late night, then an early morning, and did not review anything. He took it because I kept nagging him, but I had hoped he would have prepared a little better- instead of the get it over with attitude.

He is taking AP Calculus AB as a senior (recently took the exam- no score yet). His placement on the UDel test was level 5. Is this typical within reason? I don't really know what it means.

This is the information about the different levels for the placement test. It depends on your major and the required math in your major as to how well you need to score. [Placement Exam - Overview](MATHSci)

I see in the Placement Eam Overview that, if the school has official record of the student having received greater than a 3 on the AP, it is not necessary to take the exam. I presume then that it means that if you received a 3, then you still have to take the exam. How does that square with the the school accepting a 3 to award credit? I’m just a bit confused.

nope, I’m going into nursing, so I took stats instead of calc this year.
from what I’ve heard, the only majors that needed a 6 to be on “track” was engineering…but don’t quote me on that
his advisor will explain which math class it puts him in at nso
