Math Placement?

My humanities son (Anthropology major - History minor) is hoping to take MATH 110 Finite Math as his only math requirement – he loathes math. MATH 110 requires ACT math score of 18 for placement. Math is his worst subject. In the ACT we sent for transfer admission he scored 17 on Math, so is placed in MATH 005. He took another ACT later and increased his Math score to 20, but his composite was lower so we haven’t sent that ACT. He is really not wanting to take the math placement exam.

Anyone have experience with using a 2nd ACT just to place in a higher math class? If so, did they require an official ACT copy be sent? We are 2 weeks away from transfer orientation and fall registration, so time is short.

Here are the requirements for Math 110 per the catalog:

I would think they will take the 2nd ACT with the 20 in Math. You’ll have to call to see if an official score needs to be sent. The other alternative is to have him take the placement test.
