Has anyone taken the proctored math placement exam. How was it? How many questions and in how time did u have to take it?

I toke it at the main campus and its a proctered exam on a computer. It was the same as the online test but I think it had more questios.

Did anyone take it at SBU Manhattan? If so, please comment on the difficulty.

I never took the online exam as of yet. Where the questions on the actual exam difficult. Did it have a lot of trig?

i have a question: if i took AP Calculus AB then do I just take the Calc portion of the exam or do I have to take algebra and precalc as well?

If you decide to take calculus portion, then that means you want to take section III. This may or may not be a good idea because this section is composed of 3-4 parts that begin with AB and end with BC. It all depends on your BC calc knowledge. I had the same question. The People who make the math placement at Stony told me I'm better off taking the easier exam (I+II) with precalc b/c I can make more mistakes and possibly pull off a better score than in calc.

but if i take just parts I+II then i have to take Calculus over in college?

Yes, but you may risk getting placed into pre-calc if you don't do well on part III. Don't you have AP credit. You can use that to maybe sway the staff to get placed into calc II.

sorry i have another question: if i'm taking the calculus part of the exam then do i have to take the part with precalculus too??

I took the proctored exam, you take Algebra first, then just continue on until you fail a section. Precalc is before Diff. Calculus. You need to complete every previous section b4 advancing to a harder one.

really? cus i heard that theres 2 different exams algebra and precalc / precalc and calc

well i'm going to take precalc and calc sections, hopefully i'll pass the precalc section cus i took it 2 years ago!

The precalc is going to be difficult if you haven't taken it in that long, you definetly need to know your concepts.

To me it seemed that it just followed the same structure as the online pracice one did...just a different URL that can only be accessed from within SBU
