Math problem

Single-color tokens of blue, red, green, or yellow are placed in a single line so that the pattern of blue, red, green, yellow, blue, red, green, yellow repeats throughout. If the first token in the line is blue, which of the following tokens is green?

A. 117th
B. 118th
C. 119th
D. 120th
E. 121st

Can anyone give an explanation please?

So, I got this question correct, but what I did was that since the 4th token is yellow, I started off with yellow being the hundredth token. Then, I just counted up and found that green could be 119th.

What's a more mathematical/efficient way of solving this problem?

Green is the 3rd # appearing and has 3 colors between it and the next green, which is at the 7th number. So, there’s a separation of 4 between greens. Calculate it as if green was the first color and it would be 120. You add 2 when considering it’s the 1st number. That’s 122. However, that’s not an option, so you subtract 4…answer is 118.

The answer is C.

You are simply looking for a number that gives a remainder of 3 when divided by 4. Since 120 is divisble by 4, 119 gives a remainder of 3 so the answer is choice (C).

Oops, my bad. You’re right.
