I really want to get up my math score by December, but I'm not sure how to do it. This is the only section that haunts me; there should be no reason for me to not get an 800 on this section, but last time, I got a 680. And now I feel even more stupid because one of my friends got an 800 without using a calculator. How can I improve? Should I practice so that I will not make mistakes next time?

Practice a lot. Go over ever problem you do and learn WHY you got that answer right or wrong.

Secondly, post answers on here so you can learn from others. Browse this forum often and maybe try to answer questions posted by others.

Read questions carefully and always understand the nature of the problem like Amu suggested. Good luck.

Ya I got a 680 on my first try too and brought it up to a 780...only missed 1. You didn't get a 680 because you don't know what you are doing, you got it because the test beat you. I figured that out after getting A's across the board from Algebra I H to Calculus AB AP.
Practice tests will help teach what speed you should go through the questions and how to understand what the heck the question even wants you to solve for. Plus you may be lucky and end up learning a concept from the practice test that will be needed for the real thing. For me I learned how to do weighted averages and it showed up for real.

dang the SAT, trying to trick everyone...anyways, time is not an issue for me; i finished the first section with 10 minutes to spare.
