math programs

ok so i'm pretty good at math, but i dont have much to show for it except the normal school avg's and a little ec.
i know there are programs like Mu Alpha Theta and competions like AMC and USAMTS, but how can i do them or start them in school??
i really don't know what to do!!!

You do not need your school's involvement for USAMTS. Go to their website: http://www.usamts.org/ and you will get all the info you need. While the competition is done for this school year, you can read about the program and register for their email list.

As far as AMC, you will need to get someone to proctor your exam, and that is probably done most easily through a school sponsor. However, home school students take the exams so there are other methods. The website is http://www.unl.edu/amc/. This competition is finishing for this year, but you can learn about the competition and read the rules by reviewing the site.

My son does both of these programs and he really enjoys them. As you will see when you read the websites, they are very different.

Another program you can participate in is Math League. Their website is http://www.mathleague.com/.

I keep thinking of more. Their is another called Mandelbrot and their website is http://www.mandelbrot.org/.

I'm sure there are even more programs, but these are a great start.

texasdad has done a good job of listing the major math competiions. Further discussion about them can be found at www.artofproblemsolving.com

Another list of competitions here:

You might also want to consider a math summer program. If you move fast, you can still meet the deadlines for some of them for this summer. A list at:
