<p>2.The 20 numbers in list A have an average (arithmetic mean) of 9.5. the 10 numbers in list B have an average of 8.3. If the two lists are combined to make a new list, what is the average of the 30 numbers in the new list?</p>

<li><p>First we want to find x. 250= 58+21+35+ x+ 26+50+40 , x=20. We want the number of students that play sports and do drama, so that is the intersection of regions 21 and 20, so the answer is 20+21=41</p></li>
<li><p>Let A be the sum of the 20 numbers in list A and B be the sum of the numbers in list B.</p></li>
</ol>

<p>Average= sum/# of terms, so for list A, 9.5=A/20 -> A= 20(9.5)= 190. For list B, 8.3=B/10 -> B=83.</p>

<p>When you combine the two lists, there are 30 terms, so the sum is A+B and the average is therefore (83+190)/30 = 273/30 = 9.1</p>
