Math Question Help

If the average (arithmetic mean) of 3 distinct positive integers is 4, which of the following is the greatest possible value for one of those integers?

A - 5
B - 6
C - 9
D - 11
E - 12

Answer - C

when it says "distinct," does that mean that the # is a whole number? Otherwise D - 11 would work if it were .5, .5 and 11

distinct means different. C is the answer because the integers would be 1, 2, and 9, averaging out to 4. Integers are whole numbers, not decimals.

Ohhhh okay, just didn’t know what “distinct” meant. thanks.

Jeez I didn’t even see the world “integers” in the problem. =P gotta read more carefully.
