Math Question

For all positive integers a, let [a] be defined as the sum of the odd integers from 0 to a, for example [8]= 1+3+5+7=16. What is the vaule of [100]-[96]?

The numbers 96 & 100 will share all of the same odd numbers except 97 and 99. Everything will cancel out except those two, so the answer is 99+97= 196

Thanks, how many postive integers less than 1000 are not divisible by 3?

333, 1000/3=333.333.

NOT^ so 666

I remember reading this question and the best way to answer it is by reading the question as how many positive integers less than 1000 are divisible by 3 and then subtracting that number from 999. Keep in mind the question says less than 1000 so 1000 is not included. The numbers included are: [1, 999].

999/3 = 333

999 - 333 = 666
