Math question

I need your help.

From blue book

The square of x is equal to 4 times the square of y.If x is 1 more than twice y, what is the value of x?

We have :

 • x^2 = 4y^2 (1)
 • x = 2y + 1 (2)

(2) <=> 2y = x-1
<=> 4y^2 = (x-1)^2
<=> 4y^2 = x^2 - 2x + 1

Apply 4y^2 = x^2 -2x + 1 to (1)
<=> x^2 = x^2 - 2x + 1
<=> 2x = 1
<=> x = 1/2 = .5
