Math Question

Hi guys i know this is very easy but i got confused because i kinda forgot the rule. In the first problem he used the reciprocal of the fraction and he included the variable! why did he put -1/2x in both sides? please help me out!

<a href="http://youtu.be/NVtXA31puVU?t=2m">http://youtu.be/NVtXA31puVU?t=2m</a></p>

He was subtracting (1/2)x from both sides, so that he could get all the variables onto one side. So he ended up with x - (1/2)x -5 = (1/2)x - (1/2)x, and the right side becomes zero.

Thank you very much for taking time answering this. I thought it was the reciprocal but it turned out that i was mistaken.
