<p>in triangle ABC, AB = AC, E is the midpoint of AB, and D is the midpoint of AC. if AE = x and ED = 4, what is the length of BC?</p>

<p>can someone explain to me why the answer is 8?</p>

<p>Triangle AED and Triangle ABC are congruent and have the same angles. Thus their side measures are proportional. If AE=2 and E is the midpoint, that means AB=4 or double. So likewise, if ED=4, BC is double or 8.</p>
