<p>Hey people
My math teacher gave us some SAT prep math questions while he was absent the other day, and i got into a debate over the following question.
It was if x and y are both integers, which cannot be the product of 7^xy?

<p>Obviously it could be 49 and 1/49...but i do not understand how it could be 0 OR 1.
To have it equal 1 then one of the x or y would have to equal 0--which is not an integer, and no exponent will ever get you 0.
Am i missing something here?</p>

<p>Actually 0 is an integer, the correct choice is 0, because no matter what number x and y are there is no way that a number with a power can equal 0.</p>

<p>49 can be accomplished by x=1 y=2 OR x=2 y=1
1/49 can be obtained by x=-1 y=2 OR x=1 y=-2 OR x=-2 y=1 OR x=2 y=-1
1 can be accomplished by either x or y=0.</p>
