Math Question

Hey guys I'm not sure how to do the following question:

x and y are positive integers such that the greatest common factor of x^2y^2 and xy^3 is 45 then what of the following could y equal:

a) 45
b) 15
c) 9
d) 5
e) 3

How do you solve it?

45 breaks up into 5 x 9…which is the same as 5 x (3)^2 ; following the format

5 ^2 x 3^2 and 5 x (3)^3 = 45.

Thanks! That makes sense.

The explanation is in the book btw. :)

I thought that would be the case Xombie but I merely photocopied the questions from my school’s library and not the answers.

i’m gonna use this thread since i’m too lazy to start a new one, lol

ok, so the question is #50 on the red book (second test). it’s a geo problem so i can’t diagram it. basically, i don’t understand why H is not the right answer since ABC can be only similar to FCE right?

H is talking about the ANGLE not the triangle.

Is the answer G?

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGg, i hate these stupid mistakes of mine.

the answer is actually K since DE is at a 90 degree angle with BE

I still dont understand the solution for the first problem…anyone want to explain it better??? In the explanation he uses 3 instead of 9 as y…why??

what is the answer??? E
