Math Question!

A sphere of radius r inside a cube touches one of the six sides of the cube. what is the volume of the cubes in terms of r?
A)r^3
B)2r^3
C)4r^3
D)(4/3)pir^3
E)8r^3

its either (C) or (E)…this is a wierd one

First of all, the question is supposed to say that the sphere touches each (all) of the six sides of the cube.

The radius = r, so the diameter = 2r. The diameter of the sphere is also the length of one side of the cube, so the length of one side of the cube is 2r. The volume of a cube is the length of one side cubed, (2r)^3, or 8r^3. (Answer is E.)

crazybandit makes sense

Wait a second, it only touches one side of the cube? I think you mean it touches each side of the cube. In that case, the dimensions of the cube are

2r X 2r X 2r

8 r^{3}

em the question is wrong perhaps

wow i type too quickly… bandit is GAWD. but yeah i put B i guess i forgot to cube the 2 as well… makes sense thanks!
