Math Requirement - I skipped all of high school math

I’m currently a freshman. Last year I was in normal grade 8 math – my middle school doesn’t let anymore accelerate, but I self-studied up to Calculus AB (I got a 5) and this year I’m in Calc BC. I don’t have any high school math credits (algebra, geometry, etc). I am planning on taking math classes at my community college grades 10-12, but will that fulfill the UC math requirements? I’m especially worried about geometry.

I’m sure that will be fine. Your GC can simply explain your path in their recommendation letter to colleges.

I’m not. The lack of a geometry class is an issue for the UCs. Not having 2 algebra classes is fine, because the AP score validates algebra proficiency. There is no such validation exists for geometry - you need, I believe, to take the course. @Gumbymom might want to weigh in here, because this is beyond my area of expertise, so I might have missed a loophole.

I think @skieurope pretty much covered that you will need to have some kind of Geometry Math course to apply to the California UC’s.

You can fulfill the Geometry requirement as follows:

  1. HS Geometry Course (1 year long)
  2. College courses: Grade of C or better in a non UC-transferable course of geometry (1 semester)

NOTE: All students must complete a geometry course or integrated math with geometry content.

Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus AB or Calculus BC Exam satisfies two years of the requirement (but not geometry).

As stated on the UC website, your Calculus AB and BC cannot be used to validate the omission of any Geometry course.

Why not take geometry at your high school?
